History

The year was 1983 when a chance encounter between Edith Hansmann (a graduate of the Zurich Fashion School) and Markus Gygax (now co-owner of Bijou les Boutiques) led to the creation of a collection of 10 hand-sewn blouses. These proved popular: the collection sold out in no time. Markus and Edith realized their dream of starting their own fashion label, expanding their lineup to include pants, jackets, and sweaters, and regularly launching new collections. While they always keep current trends in mind, the unmistakable NILE remains close to their hearts and minds. The company grew steadily: in 1994, the first NILE opened in Switzerland, including one in Zurich. In the 2000s, the company expanded into Germany. In recent years, NILE has been NILE taken over and continued by Marc Willy. Meanwhile, Markus and Sabine Gygax are in charge of Bijou les Boutiques.

The garments get their signature NILE look through special washes, dyeing processes (often natural), or hand-painted prints. The “Mix & Match” concept also plays an important role: Within a given collection (and even with previous collections), most of the pieces can be easily mixed and matched.
